To the Zervas Community:

Thank you for your interest in the Zervas Elementary School Design and Construction Project.

The next regular project construction update meeting will be on MAY 11th at 7:00PM, followed by the regular WAC meeting at 7:30PM. Note: The meetings noted above will be at the Waban Area Library Center which is located at 1608 Beacon Street in Newton. For your reference, a flyer with construction updates and images has been posted to this website under the ‘agendas’ tab.

Since the last e-mail, here is a quick progress update of construction development. Exterior building work is almost complete. Masonry, window, storefront and metal panel installation are just about done. In terms of interior construction progress, MEP/FP systems, gypsum wall board, acoustical ceiling tiles, flooring, and painting activities are ongoing. Tack board, marker board and classroom casework units installation is complete. Door and hardware installation is expected to begin next week. Stair installation is complete and hand rails and safety rails are ongoing.

Note that the existing catch basin on Beethoven Ave will be repaired within the next few weeks. The site trailers will be removed shortly thereafter and work on Beethoven Ave will begin, which is expected to be complete by early June. With regard to Beacon Street and Beethoven Avenue intersection improvements, work is currently out to bid and is anticipated to happen in the summer. Note that will be other work happening on Beacon Street, separate from the Zervas building project, which is being coordinated by DPW. Police details will be present for all street and utility work. More information will be provided when timing gets closer.
